The Carriage House

A Workspace for Artists

The Carriage House is Long Island's center for experimental art. Each year, dozens of artists create and present new works of art during a variety of residencies in this landmark building on the Brookwood Hall estate in East Islip, NY.

The flexible layout of the building allows artists to create work that is free of the constraints of more traditional museum and gallery spaces. Expansive studios, with their high ceilings and concrete floors, are particularly suited for large-scale projects.

The Carriage House program consists of long and short residencies and a variety of exhibition opportunities. Artists in every residency receive stipends, space and technical support from a knowledgeable and supportive staff.

The Carriage House is a founding member of the New York State Artists Workspace Consortium, and receives generous support from the New York State Council on the Arts.

Now in its 18th year, the Carriage House partners with other agencies in Brookwood Hall, including the Islip Art Museum and the Islip Arts Council.
